I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is water still leaking, turn off the tap to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go straight to the main water shutoff valve for your property. If you are unable to locate the tap to turn off, then you could try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside the residence to depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Once that’s done, give us a call, whatever the day or time is. We will be with you rapidly to get things sorted.

While waiting for our emergency plumber to arrive, remove any significant items, clean up any water, and place a bucket to catch any drips. You should also switch off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.

Help, I don�t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
