I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

Many appliances and fixtures have taps that you can turn off. For example, the toilet will have an isolating valve below or beside the cistern. If you cannot locate a tap, or that doesn’t stop the leak, then turn off the mains valve to stop all the water to your property.

Now give our on call plumbers a ring, any time day or night. We will be there as soon as we can to save the day.

While you are waiting, remove any significant possessions from the area, and clean up any water or place a container to catch any drips. If you turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
